EU requests Greece to end discrimination against teachers who have worked in other Member States (21-06-2012)

The European Union has called on Greece to comply with its obligations under EU law by taking into account professional experience and seniority acquired by teachers in other Member States without any time limit. Greece must inform the Commission within two months of measures taken to implement EU legislation, otherwise the Commission will initiate infringement procedures.
The Greek authorities do not consider migrant workers' previous periods of comparable employment experience which was acquired in other Member States prior to their accession to the EU, when defining working conditions. This also contravenes the fundamental principles of EU law on the free movement of workers.
